Qs do the Squires Lake Loop Hike

This trail is located at the border of Whatcom and Skagit counties in WA. It's a county park, so no parking pass is required. Trail is 2 miles with 200 feet elevation gain (WTA.org)

I usually prefer to hike slow. It's not a race; the one who enjoys it the most wins. But today I speed walked Squires lake. 2 miles in 38 minutes. (Very fast for me) Good cardio. From the trailhead it's 1/3 mile to the lake. Turn left to go clockwise around the lake, taking the path to the right whenever there's a choice, even the one pictured that looks like the wrong way. Other trails are good for a longer hike. Squires has a little ice near the outlet and the trail is damp but not muddy today. It gets pretty slick when wet.

Qs do Pike Place!

I have heard that people are surprised there are lower levels at Pike Place. Boy are you missing out!  If you're a local and think Pike Place is just too touristy for you, boy are you missing out! Here's how I love to do the Market... You can drive through the market at street level, which is a fun way to get a sneak preview. Beware of pedestrians, you'll be one soon. I park on Market Street and take any of a number of stairs up to market level, stopping off at the lower levels on the way, if the stairs go that way.  Give yourself at least several hours and time for lunch.  Wander.  Get lost.

Don't miss the gum wall, Post Alley, the new Marketfront with view of the waterfront, and the roof garden with views, which you'll only find if you wander. There are lots of restaurants and walk ups, specialty stores and food shops.  You really have to explore it all and try lots of stuff.  This is a cheat day!  I usually hit Mr D's greek for the best gyro I've ever had, every time.  Skip the "original" Starbucks, unless you just can't help yourself (lines are always long). First of all, it's not really the original. That doesn't exist any more. A block away you can get your fix at Local Color, an indy cafe that supports local artists, or head up to 1st ave if you must have Starbucks. Don't be afraid to get to the market before it opens either!
